Every morning, Manucho plunged into the murky bay equipped with only worn fins, a pry bar, and iron lungs. Beneath the surface, amidst low visibility and heavy currents, he scavenged valuable scrap from barnacle-crusted shipwrecks. Each dive demanded a brutal calculation of stamina against risk as he levered rusted iron beams from decaying hulls. After four hours of relentless effort, Manucho hauled a substantial yield onto the beach. His body was spent, salted, and cut by jagged steel and coral, but the haul meant another week of survival.
