Rainbow of Pride

Amid the grayness of the city, the colors of the rainbow emerge, transforming the urban landscape and guiding the viewer’s gaze. On Paulista Avenue, during the São Paulo LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade, they transcend their aesthetic power and become an expression of a community that takes to the streets to celebrate life, freedom, affection, and the right to exist. In this photographic work, the contrast between black and white and vibrant colors creates a visual narrative. Flags, accessories, gestures, and individuals become the connecting thread between different moments of the demonstration. At times, color dominates the scene; at others, it appears as a subtle sign amid the gray, yet it remains constantly present as an expression of identity, diversity, and belonging. From large collective demonstrations to faces, gazes, and encounters, the photography gradually draws closer to the people, revealing that behind the crowd are stories, emotions, bonds, and different ways of being and loving. Throughout this journey, the rainbow comes to represent more than diversity. It becomes a symbol of hope, resistance, visibility, and the reclaiming of public space. Its colors remind us that a truly plural society is built when every person is free to live, love, and express their identity with freedom and dignity. When bodies, affections, and colors occupy the city, their presence does not end when the crowd disperses. Traces remain: in memory, on bodies, and in public space. Between the flag that transforms the urban landscape, affection inscribed on the skin, and resistance in the face of structures of power, these images seek to reveal the marks left by those who claim the right to exist, to love, and to occupy the city. Because respect for diversity is not a privilege: it is a right for everyone.
